Do you often hear people talking in Chinese like a secret code? What a different language Chinese is! Why not take challenge to get to know one of the most ancient languages in the world? After three weeks of practice, don’t be surprised if you can understand quite a bit when you go shopping. How about greeting your family in Chinese over the phone? You can do it.

These courses are only open to non native Chinese speakers. For best results, we suggest children to register for all three courses, one course each week. Campers will take a written assessment before the Camp starts.

 

acd002 Chinese Primary – Chinese Characters (I,II,III),rising grade: open

Let me take a guess: you can argue with your parents in Chinese, but you get headache whenever you see Chinese characters? These characters are your “enemies”: there are no phonics but just pictures; why two similar characters mean so differently? Do you want to convert these “enemies” into your “friends”? Join Longfeifei to understand the development of Chinese characters and the most frequently used parts and their combinations. Get some “friends” that you will enjoy for life in only three weeks, nothing beats that!

acd003 Chinese Intermediate – Reading (I, II, III), rising grade: open

“How are you?”, “Thank you”, “You are welcome”, you already know how to say these phrases in Chinese. How about other frequently used expressions? The literal meaning of “Kai Men Jian Shan” is that you see a mountain when you open the door, while it actually means being straight forward with your point. You may think “Kong Fu Zi Ban Jia” means Confucius moves his home, but what does it truly mean? Let’s do some reading together; you may have a few tricks to teach your parents afterwards.

acd004 Chinese Intermediate – Culture Study (I, II, III), rising grade: open

At Longfeifei’s Chinese Culture Study camp, we will explore Chinese history, daily life, customs, cuisine and literature, etc. The path of exploration is fun filled and mind opening, and it is waiting for you to join!

acd005 Advance Chinese – Reading (I, II, III), rising grade: open

There is English saying “A man may lead a horse to the water, but he cannot make it drink”. In Longfeifei, we look for help from the best teachers in Chinese history, they wrote many master pieces. Studying these pieces, we understand what they wrote and how they wrote. But good teachers need good students. After three weeks, you might be able to challenge your teachers. You do not know unless you try.

acd006 Advance Chinese – Writing (I, II, III), rising grade: open

A mathematician is an expert in Math, while a chemist is an expert in Chemistry, what do you call somebody that is good at writing? They are the writers. To become a good Chinese writer, you need to read and write frequently. In these classes, you will learn various styles of writings. A well spent three weeks will produce plenty of good work, be proud of yourself.

acd007 Math Olympiads (I, II, III), rising grade: 4-7

For the upper elementary and lower middle school Campers, Longfeifei will offer Math Olympiads. The entire program includes three segments, each of which takes one week. Subjects covered include geometry, number theory, algebra, and combinatory. The teacher will discuss 15 types of Math Olympiads problems such as fast calculation, number series, Gauss summation, place value, etc. After every day’s teaching, there will be independent study time with the teacher available for answering questions. Improve your math skill, it’s that simple!

The courses will be conducted in English; all participants must have a solid understanding of English. Children can elect to register for one, two or all three courses.

 

acd008 Informative Public Speaking, rising grade: 4-7

acd009 Persuasive Public Speaking, rising grade: 4-7

acd010 Public Speaking With Visual Aids, rising grade: 4-7

Are you afraid to stand in front of a group of people? Does the thought of giving a speech or presentation have you running for the hills? In this activity, students not only gain the confidence to talk in front of groups, large and small, but also learn the finer points of public speaking. Through practical exercises, students practice proper breathing, enunciation, and how to communicate with an audience.
In these three classes, students will learn how to write information speech, persuasive speech, and how to use visual aids in a speech.

The courses will be conducted in English; all participants must have a solid understanding of English. Children can elect to register for one, two or all three courses.
